Compact self-fertile cherry perfect for small gardens
If you have a really small patio but want it to be productive and pretty, try this ultra-compact cherry ‘Hartland’.
It has a naturally slow-growing habit, thanks to grafting onto the dwarfing Gisela 5 rootstock and our experts’ specialist techniques, reaching just 3-4ft (90cm-1.2m) in height when mature.
The multitasking ‘Hartland’ has a profusion of white blossom in spring which readily sets fruit, and a crop of intense deep reddish-purple, shiny cherries from mid-June to mid-July. The normal-sized cherries are roundish oblong and moderately sweet and firm and are best eaten fresh.
‘Hartland’ is self-fertile, so doesn’t require another tree to pollinate it, but is still a magnet for pollinating insects. The fruit show some resistance to splitting.
